Part Four
Ok so, because I’m fairly new to using patterns, it could’ve been the reason I started to get very confused with the two large pockets, but when I watched the video it was definitely showing me that the double or two pocket (mesh pocket) was attached to the smaller outside pocket ( which then attached to one of the larger pockets). In my head I had it straight… double mesh pocket, goes on smaller outside pocket, which then goes onto one large pocket. Great!
I then looked at the instructions, and Part1 Making pockets said to ‘line up the bottom of the mesh pocket detail with the bottom of the fabric’….Right!
looking above I saw I should be working with the smaller external pocket piece.Check.…. and remember in my head I knew it was the double pocket (mesh pocket) to go on top. I then went on to see a pic of four mesh pockets, and read after that it was written…‘Let’s see: We have just made 6 additional pockets, 4 smaller mesh pockets and 2 medium size pockets, made with fabric, sewn onto the body of a large pocket’?????? Ummm, no, I don’t!
So dear readers, my brain had suddenly turned to spaghetti, and I told myself, I had it all wrong and she must mean the other large pocket?
So,I unpicked the four part pocket I had sewn onto the smaller pocket. Now this probably wouldn’t matter to a well seasoned sewer, who knew what was what, but it was the first step to my confusion.
ok, I thought…. If she’s using the four part pocket ( as in pic), she must mean the larger outside pocket?
so I sewed the four part pocket to the bottom of the outside pocket ( which of course was wrong)… so again I unpicked everything!
I watched the videos again, and decided to go by the videos…
I sewed the two part pocket ( I wasn’t using mesh but fabric). Then I sewed that onto the smaller external pocket, and sewed both of those to an outside pocket. I then also sewed the four part pocket onto the other larger outside pocket. Hoorah ( I think)?
Notes to mention: For the first part of the pattern on making pockets…. You are using the smaller outside pocket fabric. I would sew the two part mesh pocket piece to this ( not the four part, as in the pattern pics). Go by her video instead.
Also, don’t bother sewing binding on the bottom of the mesh or fabric double pocket, as you sew it to the smaller external pocket that is then sewn onto the large pocket 9 inches down from the top and face down. It is then flipped up.I hope you can see by the progress pics I took..

This is my double pocket sewn to the smaller external pocket,( I later took the bottom binding off as it isn’t needed).

It’s then folded over and sewn along the sides, before being turned back in the right way.

It’s then sewn onto the larger outside pocket, face down and 9 inches from the top.

It’s then flipped right side up and sewn down the sides.I don’t know if I have enough space at the sides of it for when I sew it in so it’s not too thick. We’ll just have to wait and see.

The start of my four pocket ( mesh pocket), again, I'm using fabric. I just gathered the bottom a bit with a hand stitch.

Sewing to outside pocket.

I added a wider trim as it made a mini pocket and covered a lot of unpicking!

where I’m at so far, with this second pocket.
I now have to add the elastic on the other side for pens etc.
